1 Timothy 4:6-9 says, “If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters, Timothy, you will be a worthy servant of Christ Jesus, one who is nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed. Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly. “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it.”
Good Habits VS. Bad Habits
Will your habits today bring you towards a successful life? Do you fix your bed when you wake up or just leave your blankets because you will sleep again anyway? Do you procrastinate all the time? Bad habits, no matter how little they are, will affect your daily life. Little by little, you will realize that you should have changed them a long time ago.
Bad habits affect:
Physical health problems
Mental and emotional problems
Social and relationship problems
Productivity and career problems
Spiritual problems
Many bad things can happen to us because of bad habits. Learn how to change them now.
Why do you need to train how to be godly?
To have a deeper relationship wirh God (v.6) - You will be called a good servant of God
Have increased fruitfulness (v.6) -
Have eternal rewards (v.8) - One day you will reap your rewards in heaven.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
When people do not get the good result that they want, they blame the result. In reality, your habits are to blame. When you practice good habits and change even the little things, the results will change. When you do not conform to the patterns of this world, you change your identity. Your identity shapes your habits and your habits shape your identity. You cannot separate one from the other. It is important that you know who you are.
Being teansformed by the renewing of your mind encompasses your beliefs. The habits in your life will not be changed if you do not change your beliefs.
How can you change your bad habits?
Set clear goals. Goals should br specific, measurable and achievable.
Develop a routine.
Practice consistently.
Seek accountability. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Hebrews 13:16-17 says, “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.” When you enjoy what you are doing, you will not get tired. All Christians are accountable to each other. Do good. Change your bad habits today.
