Moses: A Foreshadow of Jesus

By Nina Mistula

Advent is a season of remembering and celebrating the arrival of Jesus on earth. If not for that, then humanity is doomed forever. How did Moses foreshadow Jesus’ birth?

  • Moses was born hen the Hebrews were slaves. Jesus was born when israel was under Roman rule.

  • Moses parted the Red Sea. Jesus walked on and calmed the Sea of Galilee.

  • Moses fed the Israelites thorugh the miracle of manna and quail. Jesus fed the 5000 by multiplying 5 loaves and 2 fishes.

  • Moses led the Israelites out of slavery and to the Promised Land. Jesus freed us from the bondage of sin and made a way for us to go to heaven.

They have so many similarities. But most important of all, both of them led people to God. Are you leading people closer to God?

  1. Be the salt and light. Matthew 5:13-14 says, ““You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” Just like Moses and Jesus, we live in a dark world. It is time for us to be the light in this world. Jesus is coming soon. Let us make the world a brighter place.

  2. Be obedient to God. 1 John 2:5-6 says, “But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.” This is a very difficult thinng to do. Even those who are called by God find it difficult to obey Him sometimes. Everybody is called to lead God’s people. Even before you were born, you were destined to lead. We do not go to church just to listen and say “Amen.” We go to church so we could lead the blind because once we were blind too.

  3. Be faithful. Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.” Jesus is coming very soon. You might think it is taking a very long time for Him to commme back. In fact, He is waitiing until all the ends of the earth hasve heard His word. He is giving everybody a chance to be with Him in paradise. Share Jesus now.
