Psalms 90:1-4, 8-10, 12, 14, 16-17 says, “Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. You turn people back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, you mortals.” A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan. Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.”
Rewind.
We did not have any plans to become pastors. We definitely did not have any plans to build a church. We were just gathering our employees once a week for disipleship group. Then we gather as a big group every month. One day, an idea came to feed and teach the kids in this area. I got excited because I grew up like that. We go to church because there was food. I also know how to do that because that was what I did when I was younger. That was the beginning of Revelation City Church. That is how far we have been. God has done so many things. It isgood to think of the past because we have learned so much. We had so many failures but we were able to succeed again because God was the one who taught us. And as we look back at 10 years, there are 3 C’s I want to remind all of you:
The Church’s Commitment
Mission: To free families from poverty in Jesus’ name.
Vision: Build a community of familieswho love Jesus and who unselfishlylove and serve one another
2. The Church’s Commission
Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”” We need to go and share the gospel and it will never change.
3. The Church’s Confidence
Matthew 28:18 says, “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Our confidence is in Jesus Christ; not in any man, not anywhere. We will hold on to that until the end of the age. That will never change.
Reveal.
Our church has been visited by several prophes, groups from all over the world. They come and keep coming back. They can go anywhere and everywhere else but they chose to come here. That is why I am sure we are always reminded of what we are supposed to do with our life through revelation from others. Maybe that is why our name is Revelation. We are reminded of what we are supposed to do with our love, our family, our lives and our church. I do not know what God’s plan is for us but He reveals it to us day by day. It was just like yesterday but it has been 10 years. If you go back to what God has done for you, you will be reminded of His goodess. Just look back.
Reform.
Psalm 90:17 says, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.” We are hoping for more leaders and discipleship groups to be formed next year. Are you ready? Are you with us in changing this community? Are we still doing our calling? God is preparing us for another chapter. He has changed us big time. So many things have happened after 10 years. But what remains is our relationship with Him. Anything and everything we do is an overflow of how we love the Lord. Let us not forget that in the next 10, 20, 30 or more years what is important is our relationship with the Lord. We are all called to bring this community to worship and know God.
There is a difference between perfection and excellence. There are times we are trying to achieve perfection. Perfection involves the fear of failure and the expectation of being right every time. Perfectionism is fueled by external validation and is rooted in the belief that you must be good enough to be accepted and loved. Excellence, on the other hand, involves striving to do your best but also accepting that mistakes and failures are part of the learning process. It is about being willing to be wrong and is fueled by instrinsic motivation and a desire for self-improvement. We want excellence in what we do in the church. It’s ok if we make mistakes because that is life. As we improve and reform our lives, we become closer to God. We do not need perfection. What is important is that we are all intimate with God. Strive for that and finish right.
